MMACAGECHATTER: For our readers who are not familiar with you can you tell us a little about yourself and why people should be keeping an eye out for you?

John: Well I've just turned 29 I'm a UK Gypsy Traveller iv lived in a Trailer (Caravan) my whole life and iv only been fighting MMA now for 6 years and people should keep a eye out for me cuz I'm really Cool! Lol

MMACAGECHATTER: When your name comes up we hear a lot about “Gypsy Jiu Jitsu”, what is it?

John: Gypsy Jiu Jitsu is me and my brothers again cuz I am a Gypsy and iv never trained in BBJ or worn a GI I dont have any belts or ranks in it I've all ever done no GI sub wrestling and MMA and a few years go i just called my style Gypsy Jiu Jitsu when i was getting really to fight BBJ black belts and after I beat and tap a few out I give myself a Pink Belt in Gypsy Jiu Jitsu cuz I like the color lol

MMACAGECHATTER: Congratulations on the win over DaMarques Johnson, can you tell us about that fight (how was your camp, mindset before the fight, the moment when you knew the armbar was there and you had it in and how it felt to beat a guy who some regard as an up and comer in the sport)?

John: Training camp went really well and my mindset was good all the way up to the fight but in the fight I just wasn't feeling it and I thought it was a bad fight don't get me wrong I'm happy that I won but people saying it was a good fight to me and I'm like nah it wasn't! And as for the armbar I was happy with that as soon as I step over his head I know I had it and he wasn't getting out of it! Feels great to beat a guy like DaMarques who is a good up and comer that was his 8th UFC fight and only my second so happy that I beat him but not happy with the fight!

MMACAGECHATTER: What was it like making your UFC debut at UFC 138 vs Justin Edwards and getting the win in front of your main fan base in England?

John: For me it was the best feeling in the world, making my debut in the UFC in England, the fans cheering me on then getting the win nothing better then that!

MMACAGECHATTER: What do you think sets you apart from other welterweights?

John: I don't think anything sets me apart from the other oh wait maybe it's my good looks! Lol

MMACAGECHATTER: Could you talk to us about what got you into the world of Mixed Martial Arts?

John: Well me and my brother got a DVD of UFC 40 Vendetta Tito Ortiz vs Ken Shamrock and from there we was hooked + we become big Tito fans and that's what got us in to training and fighting

MMACAGECHATTER: Who are some of your influences and idols in and out of MMA?

John: Well my influences when I got in the sport of MMA was people like Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes, Bas Rutten & frank Shamrock Old school lol & whenever Tito or Matt fights I'm still cheer for them and my influences out side of MMA was Van Damme and Bruce Lee big fan of there's I used to think I was Van Damme when I was younger lol

MMACAGECHATTER: What is your favorite part of being a Fighter?

John: I just enjoy it all training, traveling up and down getting to meet people

MMACAGECHATTER: What do you do outside of training camp to keep in shape? I know you mentioned that you eat a lot of doughnuts on Twitter last week.

John: Well not a lot lol I do like to eat a lot wen I'm not in training camp and I love Krispy Kreme donuts! But I'm alway in half shape cuz always got guy fighting so I'm always in the gym helping them out

MMACAGECHATTER: Which of your partners or fighters you have sparred with hits/kicks the hardest?

John: Well whenever I spar with my training partners we are always controlled but when I spar with my brother tommy maguire we always go a little harder with each other so I'd say he hits the hardest

MMACAGECHATTER: You train at one of the gyms that doesn’t get a lot of press in the USA, Tsunami Gym. Could you talk to us about what makes that gym so special and why you choose to train there?

John: Well what's makes it special for me is we are all very close friends ,we hang out together and whenever any of us have fights we are all ways there cornering and helping each other out, we are like a big family

MMACAGECHATTER: All of your fights have been located in England or the UK and we hear the fans over there are amazing. If you had to describe the MMA fans in England how would you do it?
John: You just said it they are amazing and very vocal!

MMACAGECHATTER: There have been some big name fighters to come out of England and make a splash in the UFC such as Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy and Michael Bisping. With that UFC debut win over former Ultimate Fighter runner-up DaMarques Johnson are you the next name everyone should know? Why?

John: I don't know really I'm hoping so lol I got one thing the other Brits aint got and that's my Gypsy Jiu Jitsu lol

MMACAGECHATTER: At what point in your career did you realize that MMA was something you wanted to do full time?
John: I dont know really ,I just love the sport ,love to train and to compete so I guess from the start

MMACAGECHATTER: Now that you are in the UFC you are in division that has been ruled over for years by a top pound for pound champion in Georges St-Pierre. What are your thoughts about GSP and the division?

John: The division as some great fighters in it and it's a tough one so I have my work cut out for me and what can you say about GSP except his the man!

MMACAGECHATTER: I mentioned before how you have were the welterweight champion in both the UCMMA and OMMAC before coming to the UFC, is it weird changing promotions and going from being the champion to not having that belt around your waist?

John: No it's not weird i liked being a champion in the other promotions and holding the belts but getting to the UFC was always my goal when I first started fighting and I'm just happy to be there now!

MMACAGECHATTER: At MMAcagechatter.com we are also interested in fighter’s opinions of the rest of MMA and the top fighters. Who do you rank in your top 5 pound for pound fights and why?

John: This is my top 5 pound for pound but not my top 5 favorite fighters! 1 anderson-silva Cuz how can he not be number 1! 2 Georges St-Pierre cuz his been the WW champ now for a long time 3 Jon Jones cuz who he has beat lately 4 Gilbert Melendez top LW who as beating a who's who of mma fighter and he should be in the UFC soon 5 Jose Aldo With 21 win and only 1 lose and beat a lot of top guys

MMACAGECHATTER: If you could stand across the cage from anyone in history fighter or not who would it be any why?

John: That's a hard 1 I don't know really!

MMACAGECHATTER: What’s next for the John Maguire both in and out of the cage?

John: Not a lot just keep training and playing my PS3 lol also just waiting on news of my next fight and I should know really soon

MMACAGECHATTER: I have seen that you are very good at responding to fans through social media such as Twitter, do you feel it is important to stay connected on a personal level with your fans and followers?

John: Yeah I think it is important to stay connected on a personal with fans, I always try and reply to them on Twitter and I'm always happy to have pictures taken and sign autograph where ever i am and I would never turn anyone down I like to keep it real! Lol

MMACAGECHATTER: What do you feel the differences are between MMA in the UK and MMA in the USA if any?

John: The differences for me is MMA in the USA is bigger but its is getting better in the UK also The USA have the Wrestling that is taught in schools over there and we don't have that here in the UK and wrestling for me is a big part of MMA
