IT'S ON!
The Fight: Cung Le vs Patrick Cote
About this fight:
This fight matches up former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le against UFC veteran Patrick Cote and this oen should please the fans as it is striker vs striker! Cote is a replacement for Rich Franklin who was pulled to UFC 147 to headline vs Wanderlei Silva (which he beat) and to be honest I believe he is a great choice as a replacement.
Cung Le
Cung Le (7-2 overall 0-1 UFC) fights out of AKA and holds an undefeated professional kickboxing record (17-0). He is the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion and is looking to get his first UFC win at UFC 148. He is known for his amazing striking (kicks) just ask Frank Shamrock who had his arm broken by Le's foot.. Le is a fan favorite because of his exciting style and amazing finishing ability. He reminds me alot of B.J. Penn wereas he has all the talant in the world but I question his love for the game and desire to be a fighter as he vacated the Strikefoce title to "concentrate on his acting career" as he put it. He seems to be back concentrating on his MMA career and I hope this is true because his opponent is not one to take lightly.
VS
Patrick " The Predator" Cote
best highlight song yet???
Patrick "The Predator" Cote (17-7 overall 4-7 UFC) fights out of Tristar and BTT Canada. He holds a purple belt in BJJ and has seemed to fight every tough middleweight in the UFC. He debuted at UFC50 at Light Heavyweight and fought Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz. Cote seems to be the guy the UFC brings in when they need a tough guy to step in for a fight as this fight marks his 5th different time in the promotion. He is very dangerous anywhere in the cage as he holds 8 KO and 3 submission victories. His battles with Tito, Chris Leben, Tom Lawlor and Anderson Silva were outstanding fights and I look for him to bring that same intensity this weekend. He has to be thinking this could be his last run in the UFC at age 32 but who knows Randy did it until his was 40.
Prediction: Le via TKO (strikes).
This is a very iffy fight for me to pick because I question Le's love of the game. If he doesn't take this fight seriously Cote will knock him out and if it is quick it could be his final fight in the UFC as he would be 0-2. I think Le realizes this and everything I have heard about this fight camp has been really good. He should be able to use his kicking to take Cote right out of the fight. Going in with the mindset of facing Rich Franklin should help him. Cote fights a lot like Franklin so the game plan shouldn't change much.
